Obituary of Gordon McKinnon

Gordon Russell McKinnon June 4, 1925 – March 12, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gord McKinnon, age 91, formerly of Moose Jaw and most recently of Assiniboia. Gord was predeceased by Doreen (Dean) McKinnon, his wife of 63 years, in 2012 and previously by his parents Frank and Sophia McKinnon, his sister Margaret Speers and his brothers Sydney and Dick McKinnon. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by his sons: Pat (Val) – Assiniboia, Doug (Darcy) – Calgary; God-daughter Wendy Romanuk – Moose Jaw; sister: Marilyn Bertram – Regina; five grandchildren: Vanessa (Justin) Clarke, Cameron McKinnon, Timothy McKinnon, Jodi (Keith) Jones, and Jessica Ripplinger; four great grandchildren: Alexander, William and Rosalie Clarke and Deklyn McKinnon; as well as many nieces and nephews. Dad was a WWII veteran and a long standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion Moose Jaw #59. He loved to swim and taught many Moose Jaw residents swimming at the Natatorium. He was an avid golfer both at the Lynbrook Golf Course and later at the Deer Ridge Golf Course. Upon retiring from the City of Moose Jaw Parks Department, he spent many enjoyable days walking with the Grumpy Old Men in Wakamow Valley Park. At Dad’s request there will be no funeral service. Flowers are gratefully declined. Special thanks to the staff at the Ross Payant Nursing Home in Assiniboia for their outstanding care and compassion.
