Obituary of Hazel LAIRD

Hazel (Jackson) Laird passed away July 11, 2013 at the age of 90 years at the Herbert Nursing Home. Hazel was born on May 20, 1923 in Ulverston, England to Frank and Annie (Dalton) Jackson. She came to Canada with her parents on March 28, 1927, first to Halifax N.S. then continuing onto Saskatchewan and settling in the Hodgeville district. She loved life on the farm and attended school at Fair Valley, North East of Hodgeville, Sask. She enjoyed playing softball and curling. She worked in Hodgeville until her marriage to William Laird on Aug. 25, 1973, at which time she moved to Swift Current, Sask. Hazel and William enjoyed visiting, sightseeing and fishing. Hazel worked at various jobs in Swift Current. She enjoyed her flower gardens and had the loveliest roses and begonias. Hazel enjoyed fishing, cross stitching, reading and watching curling on TV. She was very fond of animals and once said "I would have taken in all the strays, tame and wild, if my Mother would have allowed it." Hazel is predeceased by her parents Frank (Dec. 28, 1971) Annie (Feb. 12, 1992) an infant brother Robert (May 03, 1928), her husband William (March 15, 1988) and also several in-laws. Hazel is survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews-in-law and several cousins. A graveside service was held at Hodgeville Cemetery on Wed. July 17, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Dion M. Grimm officiating. Online condolences can be shared at www.pichehawkinsgrondinfuneralchapels.ca.
