Obituary of Gerald Hendrickson

Gerald Lief Hedrickson passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Hospital, Gravelbourg, SK, on April 8, 2017, with family by his side. He was born in Weyburn, SK on February 10, 1942, to Trigve and Erna Hendrickson. He was raised in Edmonton, AB, and on the farm at Mazenod, SK. Gerald attended school in both Edmonton and Mazenod. After graduation, Gerald worked for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in Lisieux, Hallonquist, and Vonda, SK. After leaving the Wheat Pool, Gerald moved to Saskatoon, where he worked at construction and sales. Gerald married Shirley Habermiller on June 13, 1964, and they were blessed with two daughters, Wendy and Cindy. In 1968, Gerald joined the Singer Company of Canada as a sales manager and sewing machine repairman. This took him and his family to British Columbia, where Gerald managed stores in Burnaby, Granville, and Surrey. In 1976, the family returned to Mossbank and Gerald worked for Shirley's dad, Mathew Habermiller, at Mossbank Digging & Ditching. When Mathew retired, Gerald purchased the business and expanded it to Mossbank Redi Mix. In 1988, Gerald and Shirley moved to Thomson Lake. Gerald then worked for John Deere, Douglass Sporting Goods, and Parkview Motors. Gerald and Shirley retired to Palmer, and he did seasonal work for Cranfield Farms, including helping at seeding and harvest, and also continued to fix sewing machines. He especially enjoyed working with Jim and Devin at the farm and playing with big boy toys. In October of 2016 Gerald and Shirley moved to Mossbank. He was diagnosed with cancer in November and his health deteriorated rapidly. Gerald is survived by his wife of 53 years Shirley; daughter Wendy and grandson Nathan; daughter Cindy (Lorne) Eiffert and grandchildren Zachry and Mackenzie; sister Sina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gerald was predeceased by his parents Trigve and Erna (nee Singbeil) Hendrickson; brother Marvin Hendrickson; father and mother-in-law Mathew and Leta (nee Ray) Habermiller.
