Obituary of Danielle Helland

Danielle Celine Helland passed away peacefully at the Assiniboia Union Hospital, Assiniboia, SK on June 6, 2017, with family at her side. Danielle was the eldest child of Roger and Rose (nee Daigneault) Arams. She was born on June 11, 1939 in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan. Her early years were spent on the family farm seven miles southwest of Gravelbourg and in 1951 the family relocated to Gravelbourg. She married Kenneth Helland on June 19, 1957. They resided in Gravelbourg until 1963 and then settled in Assiniboia, where they raised their four children: Lyle, Denise, Bobby and Allen. Danielle worked for many years at the New Moon Restaurant with the Fong Family. Her joy came from hosting large gatherings with family and friends. Her home was also open to anyone. It wasn't unusual at holiday time for Danielle to invite those less fortunate to dine with the family. She was a wonderful cook, she made the best fried chicken, awesome sandwiches, and the most special birthday cakes. A main staple in the household was bleach, when the guests left, the bleach would come out and the dishes would be rewashed to her high standards of cleanliness. She loved to garden, her backyard was a blooming oasis. Her bird feeders attracted all kinds of birds to the yard. Danielle enjoyed travelling, playing bingo, visiting the casino and testing her luck with the slot machines and was an avid card player. She was a collector of dolls, plates and yard ornaments. She enjoyed the company of her dog Susie, a visit from the Avon lady, listening to her all time favourite man Elvis serenade her. Her grandchildren meant the world to her, she cherished spending time with each and every one of them. Memorable moments with them, painting her nails, doing her makeup, and styling her hair were so special to her. She was their number one fan and loved attending all of their activities; volleyball, baseball, hockey. If they were participating, she was part of the action. Danielle is predeceased by her husband Kenneth (1985). Her parents Rose (2006) and Roger (2007) Arams. Left to cherish her memory are her children: son Lyle (Maureen) Helland; grandson Shawn (Jamie), great grandchildren Eric and Emma; granddaughter Nicole (Devin) Milligan, great grandchildren Letty and Capri; grandsons Kelly, Dakota and Taylor; daughter Denise Helland, granddaughter Jennifer (Darren) Pratte, great grandchildren Ty, Kale and Luke; son Bobby Helland (Treena), granddaughter Bobbie, Treena's children Robyn and Quinn; son Allen Helland, grandchildren Adam, Ben and Jenna. A celebration of Danielle's life was held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 2:00pm at St. Gorge Parish Hall, Assiniboia, SK. Memorial donations in Danielle's memory to the Ken Helland Memorial Scholarship were greatly appreciated.
