Obituary of Helen Malcolm

Helen Malcolm passed away peacefully at the Assiniboia Union Hospital, Assiniboia, SK, on July 7, 2017, with family at her side. Helen was the fourth child of William and Rose (nee Goletz) Nychuk. She was born on December 9, 1953 in Rossburn, Manitoba. After graduating high school, she moved to Winnipeg, where she worked in a flower shop and for a brief time with a film distributing company. She married the love of her life, Dave Malcolm on November 9, 1974, in Rossburn. They were blessed with two children Chris and Michelle. Dave's career with the TD Bank took the family to Winnipeg, Swan River, Rossburn, Geraldton and Assiniboia. While residing in Geraldton, Helen returned to school and earned her Early Childhood Education Diploma. In 1993, the family settled in Assiniboia, SK, It was here that Helen found her true passion, working with Home Care for 23 years. Helen's kind heart and gentle caring nature were the perfect fit. She truly cherished and cared for each person she served, always going the extra mile. She loved nature and being outdoors. She enjoyed camping, especially at Manitou Beach, gardening, golfing and bird watching. In the winter, she could be found feeding the sparrows and in the spring, digging up earth worms for the mother Robin to feed her babies. Unfortunately, Helen's earthly time was marred by cancer, she fought courageously to battle this disease and was determined to complete her bucket list with a trip to Hawaii, then Niagara Falls and finally to meet and hold her fourth grandchild. Mission accomplished! Helen was a true blessing to others, she was always reaching out to help those who needed a hand, never expecting anything in return. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed. Left to cherish Helen's memory is her husband Dave Malcolm; son Chris (Jocelyn) Malcolm, grandson Ledger James Malcolm and granddaughter Everly Rose Helen Malcolm; daughter Michelle (Darcy) Sinclair, granddaughter Camryn Elizabeth Sinclair and grandson Carter William Sinclair. She is also survived by her siblings, Sonya (Jim) Cassan, Joyce (Robert) Mott, Audrey (Jim) Hardy, Connie (Ron) Sylvester, David (Rennie) Nychuk; sister-in-law Louise (Manford) Barnett. She is predeceased by her father William and mother Rose Nychuk. Father-in-law and mother-in-law Henry and Mary (nee Guilloux) Malcolm;
