Obituary of Dorothy Rita Anderson

Dorothy Rita Anderson passed away on July 27, 2017 in Vanguard, SK at the age of 86. She was born on April 22, 1931 in Vanguard, SK. Dorothy was the fourth and last surviving child of William "Bill" and Maude (nee Williamson) Lawson. The family lived on a farm one and a half miles east of Esme, SK. Dorothy`s father passed when she was quite young, she had many fond memories of him. Dorothy's mother worked tirelessly and had real knack for making something out of nothing . The loss of her loving mother was the most difficult for Dorothy. Dorothy attended public school at Arnold School and later Vanguard High School. She worked at the Vanguard Hospital, clerked in the Esme General Store and worked in the audit Department of Simpsons in Regina. Dorothy married her soul mate, Harvey Anderson in the Vanguard United Church, on October 13, 1950. Harvey`s parents had retired to Regina so the newlyweds took up residence in the Anderson homestead, in the Glen Bain, district. Dorothy and Harvey spent the next twenty-seven years grain farming, raising cattle and growing large gardens. They also raised two boys on the farm, Barry and Darryl. Along with the boys, came large quantities of dogs and cats. In 1977, Dorothy and Harvey moved in Vanguard, but still spent much time at the farm. Dorothy enjoyed getting together with her coffee friends, listening to music, especially Jim Reeves, singing, dancing, watching the Blue Jays or Coronation Street. She had a great love for animals, especially cats and birds. She was a long time member of the Esme Social Club, a supporter of the CCF and NDP, Canadian Wheat Board, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, the local Co-op and believed in publicly funded Medicare. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her, she cherished spending time with them, tempting their tummies with freshly baked bread and cinnamon buns, playing cards , intense games of Rumoli, Nickels, or Spoons and if she was victorious all her winning score sheets were posted on the fridge until the next match would take place. She felt blessed to live in such a wonderful community. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Dorothy is survived by her loving son Barry Anderson; granddaughter Stefanie (Joe) Hinz, Jacob; grandson Nathan (Morgan Spiess), Natalie; son Darryl Anderson; granddaughter Crystal (Wade) Packard, Carter, Grady and Madden; granddaughter Lindsay (Spencer) Staniland; sister-in-law Jean Lawson. Dorothy is predeceased by her loving husband Harvey Anderson (1990); parents William (1953) and Maude (1974) Lawson; brothers Wilbert Lawson, Elwin Lawson, and sister Evelyn (Arne) Tomlinson . A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, 2:00 p.m., at the Vanguard Health Centre with Wendy Gibson officiating. Urn Bearer was Nathan Anderson. Eulogists were Crystal Packard and Lindsey Staniland. The interment took place at the Vanguard Cemetery. Memorial donations in Dorothy's memory to the SPCA were greatly appreciated.
