Obituary of Edward John Bowler

Edward John Bowler passed away peacefully at the Lafleche & District Health Centre, Lafleche, SK on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at the age of 85. Ed was born on June 29, 1932, in the Mazenod district, weighing six and a half pounds. He was the youngest and only son of four children born to John and Maud Bowler. The family resided on the NW 19-11-03-W3 in the Palmer, district. He attended Wiseman, Flaxton and Palmer Schools. In 1968, Edward obtained his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. After completion, he continued to farm the Bowler homestead at Palmer, as farming and machinery were Ed's greatest passion. His home was always open to the community, many enjoyable moments were spent in the swimming pool, shooting a game of pool, visiting, enjoying ice cream treats, cookies and tea. Ed was very active in the community, serving on numerous boards and committees. He was a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, the local Co-op Board, the Credit Union Board, the Hospital Board, the Gravelbourg Housing Authority and was a great supporter of the St. Joseph Hospital/ Foyer d'Youville Foundation. He enjoyed photography, astronomy, computers, and curling. Ed annually attended the University of Saskatchewan reunions, and always kept in touch with his alumni friends. He cherished time spent with his nieces and nephews, neighbours and their families. He felt blessed to live in such a great community surrounded by such wonderful people. In April of 2009, Ed retired from farming and moved to Mulberry Estates in Moose Jaw, SK where he continued to enjoy the companionship of friends and family. In June of 2013, Ed experienced some health problems and required more care. For a short period of time he resided at Chez Nous Senior Home in Moose Jaw and then settled in Lafleche at the Health Centre, where he resided until his passing. Ed and his family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Lafleche & District Health staff for the wonderful care he received.
