Obituary of John Kostal

John Steve Kostal passed away peacefully February 1st at the age of 90 in Assiniboia Hospital. Born November 28, 1927, on 35-7-3-W3rd Limerick District. John lived in Wood Mountain District until the age of 16. He moved to Vancouver for a short time due to his mother's health. He worked on a dairy farm. After his mother Mary's death in 1943, the family moved to the Limerick District. He became a farmer and a cattleman. From a young age, John had a great love of horses. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing. His father Steve Vincent passed away in 1951. Home was with his sisters Anne and Lillian on the family farm. In 1953, John married Evelyn Jalbert. They raised a family of six children. They moved to Assiniboia at retirement in 2005. He enjoyed socializing with friends. A family farewell to John was held on February 5, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., at the Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapel, in Assiniboia, SK. Interment was at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Limerick, SK. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Evelyn (Jalbert) Kostal, son Larry (Shirley) Kostal, daughter Monica (Lance) Buddecke, son Calvin (Donna) Kostal, son Clifford Kostal, son Darcy (Joanne) Kostal, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchild, and his sisters Anne Shurniak, and Lillian Birss. He is predeceased by his son Garnet 2009 (Carol 2010) Kostal, infant grandson, parents Steve and Mary (Kratochvil) Kostal, and brother-in-law Joseph Shurniak and James Birss.
