Obituary of Reg O'Neill
Reginald Wayne O’Neill, of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, passed away on February 7, 2018, at the age of 67. He was born and raised at Lafleche, Saskatchewan. He attended Wood Dale School for his early years, Mathieu Convent for his middle years, and Lafleche Central High School. After High School, he attended SIAST in Moose Jaw studying Commercial Cooking. He worked as a Chef for many years. Later, he worked as a farmer’s helper. He also worked for the Town of Assiniboia, as a cemetery caretaker, and had a yardcare business of his own.
Some of his interests were family, photographing old barns and churches, farming, old-time music, and woodwork. He loved to study the history of the south central part of Saskatchewan. He was a member of the local car club, the Southern Cruisers, for a few years, and he was involved in helping during the rallies. He enjoyed garage sales and leisurely drives in the countryside. He was an avid collector of keychains; family and friends would bring them to him from places they visited. He had a great respect for his ancestors, and loved to learn (and teach) about pioneer life and how people survived tough times. He loved to chat with the neighbors and visit with folks in town.
Reginald was kind-hearted and had a good sense of humour. He was deep-rooted in his Catholic faith and very seldom ever missed going to Mass on Sunday.
He recently had moved to Westside Court and seemed to be enjoying the change in his life.
He was predeceased by his parents, Oswald O’Neill in 1997, and Lilianne (Croisetiere) O’Neill in 2011. Reginald is survived by five brothers and three sisters: Gerald (Sandy) of Fern Bay, NSW, Australia; Ron (Dale) of Moose Jaw; Don (Karen) of Red Deer; Pearl (Terry) Ronning of Seven Persons, Alberta; Lyal (Sylvie) of Claresholm, Alberta; Sherryl ( Keith) Lariviere of Assiniboia; Laurel (Larry) Arvay of Olds, Alberta; Randy ( Janine) of Medicine Hat, Alberta; 16 nieces and nephews and 25 great-nieces and great-nephews.
