Obituary of Harold Tendler
Harold "Shorty” Joseph Tendler, 83 of Assiniboia SK, passed away March 3, 2018 at Assiniboia Union Hospital after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was the youngest and last surviving child of John and Mary (nee Schenher) Tendler. He was born on June 14, 1934 in Bengough, Saskatchewan. He lived most of his life on the farm at Viceroy. He attended Surprise Valley School and completed his high school years in Viceroy. Harold married the love of his life Lorraine "Lorrie” Fiechter on July 11, 1959, in Horizon, SK. They raised their three children: Kim (1960), Darcy (1962) and Wendy (1963), on the Tendler family farm north of Viceroy. Harold was a passionate man who loved his family and his sports. He curled for over 50 years and in 1988, was named the All Star Third at the Senior Elks Provincial Championship. Shorty was a left winger in hockey and played on the same line his entire hockey career. He excelled at baseball, playing 2nd base, batting leadoff and enjoyed catching when needed. The Viceroy Baseball Team was inducted in the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016. He enjoyed hunting birds, big game, and moose. He was also an avid card player, smear and crib being the most popular. Harold was a devoted Saskatchewan Roughrider fan and season ticket holder for over 35 years. He treasured spending time with his family, coaching their hockey, baseball, taking them camping, shooting a round of golf and attending his grandchildren’s many activities, all of these were very special moments in Harold’s life. Shorty worked on the telephone lines with his brother Ed and farmed until his semi-retirement in 2002. He was dedicated to his Viceroy, Bengough and Assiniboia communities always willing to help out in any way, serving the Bengough Recreation Board and Co-op Board. In 2012, Harold and Lorrie purchased a home in Assiniboia and for the first time Harold became a town kid. For a guy named Shorty, he was a very tall man that has left very large footprints. "Shorty you should have taken your shoes with you because there is no one else that can fill them.” Harold is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Lorrie of 58 years. Harold was extremely loving and proud of his three children: son Kim (Patti); son Darcy (Lisa) and daughter Wendy (Rick) Kayter.
