Obituary of Gladys Marchessault

Gladys Marchessault passed away March 10, 2018, at St. Joseph Hospital, Gravelbourg SK at the age of 82 years. Gladys was born April 6, 1935, in the McCord area. She later moved to the Gravelbourg district with her parents Rudolf and Dorothy Strieb and three older siblings. Gladys married Murray on June 14, 1957, and lived in Regina. In December, they moved to a farm in the Trewdale area. They were blessed with two children: daughter Deborah (1959) and son Rodney (1962). They lived there until the spring of 1966, then moved to their forever home in the Shamrock district. Gladys worked hard beside Murray, she did everything from milking cows, hauling and shovelling grain, summer fallowing, basically all the farming duties. Gladys and Murray raised black cattle and she amazed everyone on how she could distinguish one black cow from another. She always had a special gift for taming the cattle. Over the years, the cows would almost knock you over because they wanted to be petted. Gladys and Murray enjoyed ski-doing, ski-doo parties and curling. Gladys always enjoyed watching sporting events such as Rod’s hockey games and Debbie's fastball games. This continued on with the grandchildren and their sporting events. She also enjoyed the Lions trail rides. In 1985, Murray passed away, Gladys led a quieter life, but still worked hard on the farm with the cattle and looked after her yard. She enjoyed shopping and garage sales where she acquired many knick-knacks. She loved doing crafts, designing flower arrangements, and decorating her house with her many creations and crafts. Her little dog Taffy was always her constant companion. Gladys is survived by her loving family; daughter Debbie Deobald; grandson Darrell (Amanda), great grandchildren Ryelee, Carson and Madison; grandson Tyler (Katelyn), great grandchildren Sarah and Hunter; grandson Avery (Laura), great grandson Jackson; son Rodney (Cathy) Marchessault; granddaughter Beckie (James) Gyorfi, great granddaughter Brielle; grandson Jason; sisters-in-law Vivian (Ed) Meyer, Shirley, June, and Donna Marchessault; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Murray Marchessault; parents Rudolf and Dorothy (nee Bromberger) Strieb; siblings Fred, John (Kay) and Mary (Bob) Carr; parents-in-law Maggie and Henry Marchessault; brothers-in-law Laurie, Stan (Bea and Inez), Les and Jim Marchessault; sister-in-law Janice Marchessault; nephews Garry Strieb and Danny Marchessault. Funeral Service was held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Shamrock Hall with Pastor Bob Langdon officiating. Eulogy was given by Connie Carr and Tim Gibbs.
