Obituary of Marion Schwab

Marion Myrtle Schwab passed away Sunday, Apri l 15, 2018 peacefully at the age of 89 years, at the Ross Payant Nursing Home in Assiniboia. Marion was born in Meyronne, SK, July 20, 1928, to Edward and Samantha Eydt, who had moved to Saskatchewan from Niagara Falls, ON in 1925. She was the youngest of her five siblings. Marion’s parents worked on a farm in the Meyronne district for several years, and in the early 1930’s they moved 11 miles south of McCord and took up farming there. Marion attended the Pebble Hill School south of McCord until grade eight. She then started housecleaning, painting, babysitting, and cooking for different neighbours. In 1942, Marion was 14 years old when her family moved to Marion’s grandfather’s farm 10 miles south of Meyronne, which was just 3 miles from the Schwab homestead. Marion and Earnie Schwab became friends and after several years of dating they were married on November 20, 1947 at the Eydt farm. In the spring of 1948, they moved to Woodrow where they rented some land from Earnie’s brother for three years. They also raised chickens, sold eggs, had a few cows, and sold cream for income. In 1951, Marion and Earnie moved back to the Schwab farm to help with the farming. They rented and purchased land there, and lived with Earnie’s dad until 1955 when they moved a house onto the same yard. Marion was thrilled to at last have her own place. Marion enjoyed cooking, crocheting, had huge gardens, did lots of canning, loved working in her flower beds, raised and sold chickens. Marion and Earnie raised four children on the farm. Marion loved to play with her kids, from board games, skating, baseball, tea parties, and making little loaves of bread and buns. Marion enjoyed bowling in the Meyronne league and got several trophies. She also really enjoyed visiting and playing cards at the Meyonne and Kincaid clubs, where she made many long-time friends. Marion enjoyed travelling and would have loved to have done more; they did a cruise, a few bus trips, Hawaii, and many trips to British Columbia to visit Ernie’s sister and family and to pick cherries and apricots, where they would bring back a car full to can. Marion was a hard worker and was very active on the farm; she was Earnie’s hired man. She picked many stones by hand, hauled grain, helped with haying and rode the stone boat behind the baler for many years. Marion was a real fighter; she was a cancer survivor for 14 years, had hip replacements, broken arms, fractured neck, several other health problems, but she always kept a positive, cheery attitude. Marion and Earnie moved off the family farm in September 2013 and moved to the Prairie Villa in Assiniboia. Marion settled in nicely and enjoyed visiting, playing cribbage, doing crafts, puzzles and loved playing bingo. She spent many hours doing word searches and her favorite pastime was reading. She read hundreds of books into the early hours in the morning. Marion really enjoyed the staff at the Villa and was sad when she had to move into the Ross Payant Nursing Home in March due to failing health. On November 22, 2017, Marion and Earnie celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Marion had a quiet faith, and accepted Jesus at the age of 20. Her favorite verse which she lived by was Philippians 4:13 "I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Marion’s family was so blessed to have her as a wife, mom, grandma and great grandma. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
