Obituary of Howard Weal

Howard Thomas Weal of Assiniboia, SK passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at the age of 83. Howard was born on August 29, 1934, in the Verwood District, to Jack and Iona (nee Halverson) Weal. He grew up on the family farm and received his education in Verwood. At an early age Howard began farming with his Dad, and was devastated when he passed away in 1962. On October 22, 1960, Howard married Rachel Lemieux at St. Ignace Roman Catholic Church in Willow Bunch. For the next 23 years, Howard and Rachel continued to farm in the Verwood area. In the fall of 1984, they sold the land and re-established their family on a farm in the Assiniboia area. Howard also operated Roundup Sales and Service with Mel Noess for approximately 10 years and later sold hail insurance. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and instrumental in creating the Rebel's Cattle Lottery with Howard Mehain. Howard and Rachel loved to travel and enjoyed trips to many places, including Spain, Jamaica, and Las Vegas. Howard treasured time spent with his family, and will forever be in their hearts. Howard is survived by his wife Rachel (nee Lemieux) Weal; son Jeff (Dorrell) Weal, grandchildren Ryan, Christine, Chantel; son Jason (Crystal) Weal, grandsons Zach, Zane; son Kelly (Shelley) Weal, grandchildren Jordan, Rachel, Mackenzie; daughter Jacquie Weal (Ken) Sidorchuk, grandson Sam; daughter Tracy (Trent) Richards, grandchildren Afton, Lucas; sister Marion Halpen; niece Kathleen; nephew John (Heather); great nieces Sadie, Eva. Predeceased by his parents John and Iona (nee Halverson) Weal; and brother-in-law Pat Halpen. Funeral Service was held on Friday, May 4, 2018, 1:30 p.m., at St. George Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia. Celebrant was Father Dennis Remot. Readers were Crystal Weal and Shelley Weal. The eulogy was shared by Vic Moneo, Dave Landa, and Kelly Weal. Picture Tribute by Crystal Weal. The urn bearer was Jeff Weal. Honorary pallbearers were Ryan Weal, Zach Weal, Zane Weal, Jordan Weal, Lucas Richards, and Sam Sidorchuk. Family interment took place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia. Memorial donations in memory of Howard to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1738 Quebec Ave., Unit 26, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9, and the South Country Health Care Foundation for the Assiniboia Union Hospital Emergency Department, Box 1750, Assiniboia, SK S0H 0B0, were greatly appreciated.
