Obituary of Julia Chubey

Julia Chubey of Lafleche, SK passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at the age of 95. Julia was born on March 25, 1923, in Smolnik, Poland. She was the second of four daughters born to John and Justina (nee Maceiko) Rapko. Julia was a twin to Anne and older sister to Mary and Helen, who were born after the family immigrated to Canada when Julie was five years old. Her father gained employment with the CPR, which necessitated the move to many different towns. While living in Big Beaver there was no high school for Julia and Anne to attend, so John put a bid out to move to a different town. In the fall of 1939, the family moved to McCord. They lived in the section house that was across the tracks from the elevator. After graduating, Julia attended Normal School in Regina. Her first teaching job was at Pebble Hill School, and she stayed at the Olaf Mageli home. She also taught at Socrates and Fir Mountain. She met Peter Chubey while teaching in Pebble Hill and they were married in 1945. They were blessed with a son, Donald, on September 19, 1949, and a daughter, Patricia, on July 3, 1952. Peter and Julia farmed in the Fir Mountain district until 1973, when they moved to Moose Jaw due to Peter’s ill health. Peter passed away in 1975. Julie taught school in Moose Jaw for a few years before retiring. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved when her grandchildren would come to visit. She was an excellent cook, and her family loved the wonderful perogies that she made. Julia will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. Julia is survived by her son Donald Chubey, grandson Dallas (Genelle) Chubey, great-granddaughter Sawyer, grandson Calder (Nancy) Chubey, great-grandsons Parker, Hudson, grandson Colby (Brittany) Chubey, great-grandchildren Cohen, Collyns, daughter-in-law Marlene (Don) Bushell, their son Spencer Bushell (Corallee); daughter Patricia Klein, granddaughter Teena (Scott) Saunders, grandson Brent Klein, grandson Blayne (Allison) Klein, great-grandchildren Tayce, Taylor, Bower, grandson Byron (Lonni) Klein, great-grandchildren Knox, Hayes; sister Helen McMichael; sister-in-law Sophie Chubey; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Peter Chubey (1975); son-in-law Robert Klein (1997); twin sister Anne Metcalfe; and sister Mary Rapko. Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, 10:30 a.m., at the Gravelbourg Parish Hall Gravelbourg, SK, with Father Vasyl Tymishak celebrant. Cross bearer was Calder Chubey.
