Obituary of Neil Millard

It is with both sadness and love we announce the passing of Neil Alfred Millard, 80, of Moose Jaw, SK who left us peacefully surrounded by family on November 24, 2018 in the Dr. F. H. Wigmore Regional Hospital. Neil was born on June 18, 1938 in Canwood, SK. He was predeceased by his parents Betty and Otis Millard; his loving wife of 45 years, Jean (née Burwell); parents-in-law, Robert and Marjorie Burwell (née Mather); sister-in-law, Judy Burwell; and brother-in-law, Thomas Burwell. Neil is survived by his son, Ken (Rosa-Lea) and their children, Jacqueline and Nicholas; daughter Jennet (Patrick) Wilson and their son, Spencer; and son Robert (Charlene); sister, Fernelle (Larry) Fjerwold; sister-in-law, Betty Burwell (née Collyer), cousins, nieces, nephews and many cherished friends. Neil faithfully served as a United Church minister for 33 years in La Ronge, Star City, Birch Hills, and Biggar. He coached baseball, actively supported Camp Tapawingo and Camp Outlook, and volunteered for many other groups. He retired to Asquith in 2003 with Jean and later to Moose Jaw. Being a grandfather to his three grandchildren, Jacqueline, Nicholas, and Spencer, brought him immense joy and pride. Everyone who knew Neil couldn’t help but notice his infectious laugh and enthusiasm for life. He loved to share his interest in Ford vehicles, trains, and his Diefenbaker impersonation. His true passion was baseball, and he eagerly infused baseball lingo into his conversations. He was a fan of the Blue Jays but his true loyalty belonged to his childhood favourite, the New York Yankees. Neil made friends everywhere he went and will be forever remembered as a man who selflessly shared his love, laughter, and faith. The funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at 2 pm at Zion United Church in Moose Jaw with Rev. Ellis officiating. Interment is at 11 am at the Asquith Cemetery on Sunday, Dec. 2 with a lunch following at noon in the Asquith Seniors Centre. Donations in memory of Neil can be made to Zion United Church, 423 Main St N, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 0W5.
