Obituary of Harvey Boland

Harvey Andrew Boland of Mankota, SK passed away on May 28, 2019, at the age of 71 years. Harvey was born on August 29, 1947, at Kincaid, SK. He was the oldest child and only son of Henry and Helen (nee Shurniak) Boland. Harvey grew up on the homestead, which he would eventually farm and where he would raise his own family. He began his education at Southside School and graduated from high school in the ‘60s. Harvey then attended the University of Saskatchewan, studying agriculture. After completing his studies, Harvey would work up north off and on, on the pipeline and building escalators, to make additional money to start building on the farm. During this time he started courting Susan Raymond, and they were married on October 21, 1972. Harvey and Susan made their home on the farm and were blessed with two sons, Charles and Wayne. Harvey loved working on the farm and had a great mind for business. He diversified from grain crops into cattle and treated his animals like royalty. Harvey loved nature, vacations with family, and spending time in the mountains. He would often go on road trips, and Harvey’s measure of a good outing was by how much wildlife he encountered. Harvey loved to help others and was an active member of the community. He served on the Credit Union board, 4-H, the Mankota Stockman’s Weight Co., Swift Current Fair board, and later on in establishing the Red Coat Cattle Feeders feedlot near Hazenmore. Harvey was a special member of the community, a loving father, wonderful grandfather, and a great husband. He will be dearly missed. Harvey is survived by his loving family, wife Susan Boland; son Charles Boland (Kelly Tays), grandchildren Kelsey, Tristian, Jordan; son Wayne (Maria) Boland, granddaughters Sara, Erica; sisters Valerie (Dale) Turgeon, Eileen Boland; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Henry and Helen (nee Shurniak) Boland; and nephew Paul Lockyer. Funeral Service was held on Monday, June 3, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at the Mankota Agricultural Hall, Mankota, SK, with Laura Balas officiant. The eulogy was shared by Wayne Boland. Honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Harvey’s life. Active pallbearers were Evan Schafer, David Raymond, Scott Turgeon, Roy Raymond, Richard Rieder, and Scott Davidson. Interment took place at the Mankota Municipal Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Harvey to the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation, Box 810, Gravelbourg, SK S0H 1X0, were greatly appreciated.
