Obituary of Nick Hazen
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Nick Hazen on March 19, 2012, at the Regina General Hospital, after a full healthy life and short illness. Predeceased by his parents Benton and Mary (nee Zirri) Hazen; brothers George, Albert, Charles, John, Mike, Louie, Joe; sisters Marie Klemenz, Mary Anne Zerie, Rose Hazen, Lillian Hazen, Vivian Schenher. Survived by his loving wife of 63 years Lillie; daughter Sharron (Jim) Szucs and granddaughters Pam (Ryan) Mathers, Jennifer (Leon) Dupuis; daughter Emily (John) Zyla and grandson Ryan; son Ben (Heather) and grandsons Michael and Nickolas (Lara); son Bob (Debbie) and grandsons Cody and Zack; 6 great grandchildren and 1 more on the way; brothers Ben (Mary) and Don. Nick was born at Pangman, SK on May 11, 1923, the sixth son of Benton and Mary Hazen. Nick worked for various farmers in the Horizon area; he was in the army from 1944-1946. In the winter of 1946-1947 he worked in a logging camp in Ontario. In the spring of 1947 he returned to Bengough and worked for Jules Geske in the blacksmith shop, where he met Lillie Nergard who was employed at the hotel. In the winter of that year he went to Moose Jaw and worked at Swifts Packing Plant; Nick returned to Bengough in the spring of 1948 and he married Lillie in October of that year. In 1949 he worked for George Coomber on the dray. In the spring of 1950 he worked on the farm for Albert Leflar and stayed there for 12 years. In 1960 he purchased land from George McDonald and moved there in 1962. They farmed there until 1975, when they built a house in town; Nick continued to go to the farm to help out. He also continued to do odd jobs for people around town until just before his passing. Nick enjoyed fishing, camping, cards and a good joke. He also loved visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. As per Nick’s wishes there will be no funeral service.
