Obituary of Philip Mathias Hartman

Philip Hartman of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in Regina, SK, at the age of 90 years. Philip was born on February 2, 1922, in the Flintoft district, the youngest child of seven born to Frank and Evelyn Hartman. Philip married Fern Sangster on November 26, 1945, and they were blessed with 10 children. They farmed in the Flintoft district until 1951. Then moved to Wood Mountain then to Biggar where Philip was a grain buyer for Pioneer Grain. He was promoted to Auditor and moved to Assiniboia, where they retired. After retirement they moved to Moose Jaw and enjoyed wintering in Las Vegas. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing ball, curling, and card games. He was also a member of the Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Legion. Philip was very involved in his children's lives and would support them in their schooling and their after school activities. He was a school board trustee for the Boarderland school district. Phil married Rita Kinch on March 4, 2006 in Moose Jaw. Family gatherings were always a highlight of Phil's life and in 2010 he was proud to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of his parents immigrating to Canada. Where he was fortunate to meet his cousin Anna Hilmer and her two sons, Ralf and Heiko, from Germany. Philip is survived by his 10 children, Charleen (Gus) Kuchar, Valorie Hartman, Myrna (Larry) McKenzie, Phillip (Barb) Hartman, Heather (John) Millar, Lloyd Hartman, Debra Hartman (Al Young), Findlay Hartman, Viola (Gene) Olsen, Aileen (Wilf) Feist; 27 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren; sister Annie Jorgenson and many nieces and nephews and their families; second wife Rita (nee Kinch); and her children Lea (Wally) Meili, Greg (Maureen) Kinch, Aileen (Joe)Keates, Patrick (Suzanne)Kinch, Bernie (Berna) Kinch, and families. Predeceased by his first wife Fern in 2003; parents Frank and Apolonia (Evelyn) Hartman; sisters Barbara Kostiuck, Lena Galen, Rose Petersen, Josephine Hickie; brother Joseph Hartman. Funeral Mass was held on Monday, April 16, 2012, at St. George Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia, SK, with Father Joy Montiague celebrant. Interment took place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, SK. A donation in memory of Philip may be made to Regina Palliative Inc., Pasqua Hospital, 4F 4101 Dewdney Ave., Regina, SK S4T 1A5.
