Obituary of Evelyn Irene Walker
Evelyn Irene Walker of Mankota, SK, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the age of 91 years. Evelyn was born on April 13, 1921, the first child of five born to Walter and Mary Edith Knox. Evelyn taught school in the Reliance District for two years. While there, she met her future husband, Clarence Walker. They were married on October 12, 1944, in Aneroid, SK. Evelyn and Clarence were blessed with a legacy of 9 children, 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Evelyn loved children and her face would light up whenever she saw them. Evelyn grew up believing that family always came first and she passed her beliefs onto her children. The church was very important to her and her faith was strong. Evelyn was a member of the UCW and the Grasslands Genealogical Society. She enjoyed bowling and never turned down a game of cards. Her unconditional love and dedication will never be forgotten by those whose lives she touched in so many ways.
Predeceased by her husband of 52 years Clarence Walker (1997); son Kenneth Walker (1991); granddaughter Joelene Walker (1985); parents Walter and Mary (nee Bell); brothers Kenneth Knox, Percy Knox and Eldon Knox.
Evelyn is survived by her loving children, Keith (Margaret) Walker of Mankota, SK, Dale Walker of Fort McMurray, AB, Linda Walker of Edmonton, AB, Beverly Chanig of Saskatoon, SK, Debra Kornaga of Saskatoon, SK, Glen (Johanne) Walker of Fort McMurray, AB, Judith (Ken) Kornaga of Glen Bain, SK, Grant (Mary) Walker of Stettler, AB; grandchildren Leah (Ward) Nelson, Tonia Walker (Dean Hogberg), Opal (Scott) Proudlove, Cal Chanig, Cory Chanig, Shannon (Aaron) Leonard, Carla Kornaga (Robert), Steven (Erin) Kornaga, Devin (Neil) Kornaga, Amy (Darcy) Smith, Chris (Sharla) Walker, Matthew (Amanda) Walker, Clinton (Katrina) Kornaga, Justin (Amanda) Kornaga, Kendal Kornaga (Gordon Wallace), Ian Walker, Tracey Walker; 14 great grandchildren; sister Velma (Douglas) Pearson of Medicine Hat, AB; sisters-in-law Sylvia Knox, Corine (Bernie) Carlyle.
Funeral Service was held on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at the Mankota Agricultural Hall, Mankota, SK, with Reverend Mathias Ross officiant. The eulogy was shared by Glen Walker, followed by a power point presentation; scripture readings read by Linda Walker and Debra Kornaga, Gordon Wallace played the bag pipes and the United Church and Catholic Choir sang a few of Evelyn’s favorite hymns. Honorary pallbearers "Everyone who shared in Evelyn’s life.” Active pallbearers were Evelyn’s grandchildren. Interment took place at Wallard Community Cemetery. Memorial tributes in memory of Evelyn to the Prairie View Health Centre Fund, Box 392, Mankota, SK. S0H 2W0 and the Calvary United Church, Box 296, Mankota, SK. S0H 2W0, were greatly appreciated.
