Obituary of Raymond Gauthier

Raymond passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 7, 2012 at the age of 82. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Cécile Rivard of Fir Mountain, Saskatchewan, children Denis (Debbie) grandchildren Élysse, Stéphan; Monique (Dennis Gaboury), grandchildren Melissa (Adrian Mosorocean), Amanda (Doran Wagner); Céline; Aline (Greg Makuch); Gilles (Brenda) grandchildren Kyle, Alecia; Lise (Blair Frederickson) grandchildren Rebecca (Nick Sand), Carter Vause. Raymond was predeceased by his parents Raoul Gauthier and Maria Larochelle, his siblings Sr. Cécile Gauthier (Grey Nuns) and Claude. He was survived by his siblings: Simone Carrobourg, Denise Lagassé, Lilianne Parent, Gilbert Gauthier, Gilberte Keck, and Brother André Gauthier. Raymond was born and raised in Coppen, Saskatchewan where he farmed for over 50 years. While on the farm, Raymond enjoyed working the land, seeing his crops prosper, tending to his cattle and garden. In his leisure time, nothing gave him more satisfaction than woodworking. He gladly filled endless project orders for his children, grandchildren and anyone else who would ask him. As well, he loved the outdoors: fishing, camping and trapping. In 1990, Raymond and Cécile moved to Gravelbourg and together entered their ‘retirement’ phase. This included an endless roller coaster ride of activities: playing cards and games, trips to the States, moving children, attending their grandchildren’s sports events and graduations. Our dad will be mostly remembered for his wit, intelligence, wonderful sense of humour, his open heart, his goodness and his unconditional love for his family and friends. We are so proud of him and will miss him dearly. Funeral Mass was held on Friday, May 11, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., from Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral, Gravelbourg, SK, with Father Joseph Strohhofer celebrant. Cross bearer was grandson Carter Vause. Readers were nieces Lucy Parent-Legge and Juliette Lefevre. Prayers of the Faithful were shared by godchild Mariette Anderson. Offertory gifts were presented by granddaughters Amanda Gaboury, Elysse Gauthier and Rebecca Sand. Music by nephew Marc Gauthier, Wendy Jenkins-Gauthier and Leona Bourgeois. Urn bearer was grandson Kyle Gauthier. Interment took place at the Gravelbourg Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial tributes in memory of Raymond to St. Joseph Hospital Foundation, Box 810, Gravelbourg, SK S0H 1X0, were greatly appreciated.
