Obituary of Marguerite Opal Thurlow
On May 3, 2012, Marguerite Opal Thurlow passed away peacefully at the Bengough Health Centre, Bengough, SK. Maggie was born on June 6, 1915, on the family farm at Ogema, SK, to Napier and Elta Bassett. She moved with her parents in 1919 to a farm south of Coronach, SK, known as Pretty Valley District, and attended Roseland school. On December 1, 1933, Maggie married Roy "Mickey” Thurlow in Scobey, Montana. They purchased his father’s farm in 1946, where they resided and raised their children. Maggie worked hard on the farm, raising a large garden, chickens and canning fruit, vegetables and meat. Maggie enjoyed going to church and attending Ladies Aid meetings. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Coronach, SK. Mickey passed away in 1957. She continued to farm with her two sons, Gordon and Lloyd. In 1973, Maggie sold her farm and moved to Bengough, SK, where she resided. Maggie had many friends and enjoyed the company of them all. As her health was failing, Maggie moved into the Bengough Health Centre in 2007. Maggie was predeceased by her husband Roy "Mickey”; son Lloyd; parents Napier and Elta (nee Class) Bassett; brothers George, Phill, Allan, Harold, Ken and Leslie; sisters Doris, Bernice and June. She is survived by her three children, son Gordon Thurlow of Bengough, SK; daughter Kaye (Raymond) Anderson of Coronach, SK; daughter Sandra (George) Bartole of Big Beaver, SK; special daughter-in-law Sylvia Thurlow of Bengough, SK; nine grandchildren, Brent (Helen) Thurlow of Bengough, SK, Myrna (Guy) Girard of Ottawa, ON, Corey Thurlow of Bengough, SK, Perry (Rhonda) Anderson of Medicine Hat, AB, Boyd (Sheila) Anderson of McBride, BC, Marty Anderson of Regina, SK, Sherry (Eugene) Krusk of White City, SK, Shannon (Don) Amell of Coronach, SK, Melanie (Jason) Orvold of Saskatoon, SK; 17 great grandchildren; sister Jean Winner of Cottage Grove, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private family Funeral Service was held on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., from Piché-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia, SK, with Pastor Luther Heintz officiant. Active pallbearers were Brent Thurlow, Corey Thurlow, Perry Anderson, Marty Anderson, Eugene Krusk and James Amell. Interment took place at the Coronach Cemetery.
