Obituary of Stanley Ralph CURRY

Stanley Ralph Curry of Lafleche, SK, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the age of 79 years. Stan, the eldest son of Bob and Mabel (nee Johnson) Curry, was born on September 24, 1932, on the homestead of his maternal grandfather near Woodrow. He attended Winnifred School, Harwood School, Caronport School and Luther College. Stan was sponsored by the Sask. Wheat Pool to attend Co-op School and later became a Pool Committee member for several years and a director on the Lafleche Co-op Board. After completing his schooling, Stan rented land and began farming with the Curry Bros. Stan married Lorna Flynn on November 6, 1954 and they were blessed with three children, Beth, Brenda and Blair. After the birth of their first child, Stan and Lorna decided they needed a milk cow, leading them into the cattle business. When his Uncle Ed passed away in 1959, Stan purchased Ed’s share of farm equipment, rented his land and began farming with his Dad. In 1966, they built a new home and the following year purchased the Martineau farm. In the early 1970s they also purchased pasture land south of Fir Mountain to accommodate their growing herd of cattle. Stan’s Dad retired from farming in 1979 and he began farming with his son Blair. Stan was a member of the Harwood Ball Club and had many good times at ball tournaments, card parties and dances. He also enjoyed going on holidays with Lorna in their motor home or by bus. Stan cherished his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found great joy in spending time with them. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Stan is survived by his loving family, daughter Beth (Jack) Tallon, grandson Michael (Amanda), granddaughter Holly (Brian) Dyck and great grandson Gabriel, grandson Chris (Brittany); daughter Brenda (Paul) Heine; son Blair (Marlene), grandson Cody and great granddaughter Hayley; sister Shirley (Roger) Walters; brother Bill Curry; sister-in-law Elsie Woodcock; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his wife of 53 years Lorna (nee Flynn 2007); parents Bob and Mabel Curry, in-laws Russ and Ethel Flynn, Herb and Merrell Flynn and Art Woodcock. Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., from the Lafleche United Church, Lafleche, SK, with Reverend Mathias Ross officiant. The eulogy was shared by Michael Tallon. Readers were Amanda Tallon, Brittany Moss and Joyce Silzer. Power point presentation by Holly and Brian Dyck. Music by Kay Mitchell, Maurice and Anita Palmier. Urn bearers were Chris Tallon and Cody Curry. Honorary pallbearers were "All those who shared in Stan’s life.” Interment took place at the Lafleche Municipal Cemetery. Memorial tributes in memory of Stan to the Lafleche & District Museum, Box 21, Lafleche, SK S0H 2K0 and the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, SK S6H 2M2, were greatly appreciated.
