Obituary of Stanley Albert JAMES

Stan was born in Lafleche, SK on January 20, 1922, the oldest child of nine born to Albert and Ethel (nee Mayne) James. Stan received his schooling at Sister Butte and Bluff Creek schools, and when he was 15 the family moved to Sombra, ON, where they farmed and ran a ferry. In September 1942 Stan joined the army and served overseas in Europe; he was back in Canada and ready to ship out to the Pacific when the war ended. Stan then settled in Sarnia, ON and worked for the Dow Chemical Company until 1954, when he came back to Saskatchewan and began working for Martin Howe. In 1955 Stan purchased three quarters of land, the NE and S of 29-03-05, referred to as the school section. Stan continued working for the Howes until 1965, when he bought another half section of deeded land, NE 18-03-05 and SE 07-03-05, and obtained a half section of leased land, SE 08-03-05 and NE 07-03-05. Along with grain farming, Stan kept cattle, sheep, geese and guinea fowl. His pride and joy were the Belgian horses that he raised, and it was a familiar sight to see Stan riding his favorite horse, Roany. Stan’s dog Baldy also accompanied him everywhere on the farm, following him in the field, in the pasture or riding with him in the truck. Stan was an avid reader and enjoyed having coffee and visiting with neighbors. When Stan was 65 he decided that he was going to retire. He sold his land, had an auction sale and moved to the big town of Fir Mountain. During his retirement Stan enjoyed spending time looking after his horses and cattle. Stan was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Ethel James; brothers Benson James and Elwood James; sisters Gladys (George Korovier), Lillian (Al) Albert and Joyce James. Stan is survived by sister Muriel (Bruce) McCallum; brothers Donald (Dorothy) James and Roy (Linda) James; sister-in-law Mary James, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
