Obituary of Wayne Murray DOMBOWSKY

Wayne Murray Dombowsky of Limerick, SK, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at the age of 59 years. Wayne was the eldest son of Anthony and Dorothy (nee Brown) Dombowsky, born on March 30, 1953 in Moose Jaw, SK. Wayne attended Queen Elizabeth Elementary School, Peacock High School and SIAST in Moose Jaw to be an auto technician. In the lull between the high school years and his eventual career as a mechanic, Wayne tried out a few different types of work, including being a ranch hand, working at the Buffalo Pound Riding Stables, on the CNR and at Sask. Power. Wayne moved to Limerick in December 1978 and was employed at the Limerick Co-op. In September 1981, Wayne met Eva Semrick and they were married on July 16, 1988 at the United Church in Limerick. Eva’s two youngest sons came to live with them and just like that Wayne became a father of two young boys. It was a new venture for Wayne but he did his best. Wayne loved the boys like they were his own children and he was truly proud of Jason, Trevor and Derek, and their achievements. In 1989, Wayne left the Co-op to work as a mechanic at Palliser Motors in Assiniboia. In 1993, when Palliser Motors closed, Wayne and Eva decided to open their own automotive business in their two car garage. This was one of the proudest moments of Wayne’s life. The new business was called W/D Automotive. Their automotive business was continuously growing and in 1998 a new shop was built next to their home. In the late 90’s, as a way to spend more time together, Wayne and Eva bought a gym called X-Treme Fitness. They also decided to take up scuba diving and went on several special diving vacations together. Wayne was involved with the Limerick Loose Ends Hockey team and played ball with the Limerick Red Eyes and Flintoft Twilighters. He enjoyed coaching minor ball and being an umpire for minor and ladies ball. In 1987 Wayne became a SAHA referee and won the Most Deserving Referee award for Zone 3. Eva always thought that he preferred the conversation to the actual game, but none-the-less Wayne strapped those skates on often and made his contributions to the worlds of senior and minor hockey. Before Wayne was a mechanic, a diver, a husband, father and grandfather, before he coached hardball, reffed hockey or bench pressed, he was a cowboy. Wayne loved horses, ranching and everything in between. If Wayne wasn’t in the shop, wearing grease smeared overalls, he could be found in his cowboy boots, wranglers, a pin up shirt and a cowboy hat. Wayne loved his family, all of his family – those that were near and dear and those who lived far away. He always wished that there was more time for visiting. Wayne adored his nieces and nephews, step-sons, in-laws and his grandchildren. Wayne’s lap was always there for the little people to cuddle and despite his gruff exterior, Wayne was usually the first one to give a hug. Wayne was a wonderful man who will be loved, missed and cherished by his family and friends. Wayne is survived by his loving family, wife Eva (nee Semrick); son Jason (Wendi) Sczesny, granddaughter Hope; son Trevor (Kim) Sczesny, granddaughters Calixa and Leela; son Derek (Julie) Sczesny, grandchildren Olivia and Jarett; sister Cora (Don) MacMillan; brother Paul (Tania) Dombowsky. Predeceased by his parents Tony and Dorothy Dombowsky. Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., from the Limerick Community Hall, Limerick, SK, with Reverend Linda Tomlinson-Seebach Officiant. The eulogy was shared by William MacMillan. Music by Gail Mergen, Judy Chubb and Adrianna Simpson. Active pallbearers were Kelly Lightfoot, Dale Berner, Duncan MacMillan, Bob Helland, William MacMillan and Doug Willis. Honor guard was formed by the Flintoft Twilighters. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Limerick, SK. Memorial donations in memory of Wayne to the Trinity Untied Church, c/o Limerick/Lafleche Pastoral Charge, Box 536, Lafleche, SK S0H 2K0.
