Obituary of Doris PATON

Doris Mae Paton of Gravelbourg, SK, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at the age of 83 years. Doris was born in Gravelbourg, SK, on October 12, 1929, the oldest child of James Earl and Edith Katherine (nee Austin) Thompson. Doris married Earl Paton on October 12, 1951 and they were blessed with two children. They farmed in the Bateman district and retired to Gravelbourg in 2007. All of the family gatherings at their house were filled with people and lots of food. Doris was a wonderful cook, and made the best hamburger soup, stew, baked beans and buns. She enjoyed quilting, playing bridge and cribbage, and watching the Toronto Blue Jays. Doris treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Doris is survived by her husband Earl of 61 years; son Gordon (Barb) Paton; daughter Diane (Gerry) Paton-Molnar, granddaughter Dawn (Colin) Paton, great grandchild Jared, granddaughter Tammy Paton, grandson Craig Paton; sisters Mearl Eklund, Maxine (Ian) Smith; brother Gerald (Jane) Thompson; brothers-in-law Adrian Paton, Jim (Carole) Paton. Predeceased by her parents Earl and Edith Thompson; sister Shirley (Leo) Hawes; brother-in-law Glenn Eklund. Funeral Service was held on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Stephen’s United Church, Gravelbourg, SK with Reverend Linda Tomlinson-Seebach officiant. The eulogy was shared by Dawn Paton. Organist was Addie Paton. Honorary pallbearer was great grandson Jared Bishop. Active pallbearers were Dawn Paton, Colin Bishop, Tammy Paton, Craig Paton, Brad Paton and Kevin Paton. Interment took place at the Bateman Community Cemetery, Bateman, SK. Memorial tributes in memory of Doris to the Foyer d’Youville Foundation, Box 810, Gravelbourg, SK S0H 1X0, were greatly appreciated.
