Obituary of Marjorie KNOX

Marjorie Lenore Knox of Assiniboia, SK, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at the age of 89 years. Marjorie was born on June 20, 1923, in Unity, SK, the youngest of six children born to Margaret and Frederich Ruemper. Marjorie’s father passed away when she was 18 months old, and her mother then moved the family to Saskatoon. There, they bought a large 3-storey house and took in boarders. Marjorie attended City Park Collegiate in Saskatoon and then Business School. She first worked as a secretary for the Equitable Life Insurance Company and then later for the Department of Highways from 1940 – 1947. During that time, Marjorie was active in the Armed Forces Hostess Club and served on the executive of the YWCA Coquette Club. Marjorie met Jack Knox, a World War II veteran who was attending the University of Saskatchewan, and they were married on August 30, 1947 at the Third Avenue United Church in Saskatoon. Their first child, Graham, was born in 1949. After Jack’s graduation, the family settled in Limerick and then later on the original Knox homestead where they farmed until 2001. Daughters Lenore and Colleen were born in 1951 and 1963. Marjorie enjoyed gardening and planting trees and flowers on the farm and continued these interests after she and Jack retired to Assiniboia. Over the years, Marjorie was a member of the Limerick Co-op Ladies Guild, the Limerick Home and School Association, the Limerick Figure Skating Club, and various church groups. She taught Sunday School in the United Church and the Alliance Church, served as president of the Alliance Women and was a member of the Alliance Prime Timers. She loved to read, knit and watch a good mystery on TV. Marjorie also loved to travel, and, together with Jack, enjoyed various trips to the Maritimes, Alaska, Hawaii, Thailand, Greece, Germany and England. Marjorie was a person who loved and cared deeply for her family. Each member of her family knew that they were loved and prayed for daily. Marjorie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Marjorie is survived by her loving husband of 65 years Jack Knox; son Graham (Marjorie) Knox, grandchildren Michael Knox, Leah Knox, Rochelle Knox (Anders Bergstrom) and great grandson Soren Bergstrom; daughter Lenore (Derek) Palmer, grandson Matthew Palmer and great grandson Thomas Palmer, granddaughter Tamara (Mark) Rempel and great grandchildren Simon and Ivan Rempel, granddaughter Sherry Palmer, and grandson Luke Palmer; daughter Colleen (Nathan) Epp, grandchildren Joshua, Andrew, Kathryn and Jaclyn Epp; sisters-in-law Maureen Knox and Joyce Knox, and numerous nieces and nephews. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents Frederich and Margaret (nee Hatton) Ruemper; brothers Roy (Una), Harold (Lillian), Stanley (Miriam), Ralph (Doris); sister Doris (Charlie); grandson Andrew Palmer; and brother-in-law Murray Knox. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, October 29, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the Assiniboia Alliance Church, Assiniboia, SK, with Pastor Greg Dermody officiating. The eulogy was shared by Lenore Palmer and special music by Heather Delorme. Memories and Scripture readings were given by Marjorie’s grandchildren.
