Obituary of Muriel Agnes GINGELL

Muriel died peacefully at her home at the Foyer d'Youville on December 23, 2012, after a long life of 102 years. She was born in the Grenfell, SK district on August 9, 1910. Muriel was predeceased by her parents Richard Alfred Box and Mary Box (nee Birtles) and her loving husband of fifty years, H. Kenneth Gingell. She was also predeceased by seven sisters and six brothers. Muriel is survived by her loving family, daughter Jeanne (Dennis) Keiser, grandchildren Deborah (Steve) Douglas, Blair (Cheri) Keiser, Ellen Keiser, Amy Keiser and Andrew Keiser; son Garth (Laverne) Gingell, grandchildren Kenny (Lise) Hixson, Cathy (Jim) Smith, Terry Hixson, Wendy Gingell (Eric Lazo), Rhonda Gingell Munteanu (Lyle Munteanu) and Brian (Alyssa) Gingell, daughter Janice Gingell (Barry Singer) grandchildren Anna Singer (Andy Chiang), Katie Singer (John Moody) and Molly Singer; sisters Freida Hawken and Merle Laut and sisters-in-law Ethel Box and Gladys Box, as well as fifteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Muriel attended Normal school and began teaching just as the drought and depression began in 1929. Her last assignment was at Wiseman School in the Gravelbourg district where she met her future husband, Ken. Muriel made the decision in 1939 to change careers and entered the Calgary General School of Nursing. After completing her training, Muriel worked at Morely, AB and then at the Veterans' Hospital in Vernon, BC. In 1944 Muriel and Ken married and settled on Ken’s family farm northeast of Gravelbourg. They farmed there until their retirement in 1969. Muriel's life in the Gravelbourg community centered around family and friends and St. Stephen's United Church. She was an avid gardener and reader. She will be missed by her family and community of friends. Muriel's funeral service was held on Dec. 29, 2012 in St Stephen's United Church, Gravelbourg, SK.
