Obituary of Gilbert Rene PREFONTAINE

Gilbert was born June 18, 1936. He married Marguerite Mondor in 1960 and they ranched near Lisieux until 1981. Gilbert was first and foremost a family man; Marguerite's husband and best friend. He was a wonderful and supportive dad to Debbie, Albert and Yvon. A proud and caring grandfather, that dearly loved to be involved in the lives of his grandchildren Kyron, Dylan, Kendra, Colten, Tyson, Shivarya and Saisha, ready to tease, tickle or cuddle as necessary. Gilbert was an astute rancher, a skilled athlete in his younger years excelling in baseball and hockey and later an avid golfer. A dedicated coach, Gil taught many the finer points of hockey, baseball and golf mostly in the Willow Bunch and Rockglen area. After selling the ranch in 1981, Gilbert then resided in Moose Jaw until 1983, briefly being involved in junior hockey. In 1983, Gilbert returned to the South Country to operate a grocery store in Rockglen with Marguerite until his retirement in 1996. Gilbert and Marguerite moved to Ft. Qu'Appelle in the fall of 1996, where "Gil" immersed himself in golf and other sporting and social activities. Gilbert was a mentor and a true friend to many, an affable friendly man with a dry sense of humour who was willing to help out those in need. Throughout his life he was an active volunteer, a friend to many, ready to offer advice, a place to stay or lend money, whenever the need arose. Gilbert, throughout his life, forged many special friendships with people of all ages that brought him much joy and made him feel like a wealthy man. A big thank you to all that enriched Gil's life and made it special. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honour of Gilbert to local minor sports associations or the All Nations Hospital in Ft. Qu'Appelle.
