Obituary of Rose Mary HOWELLS
Rose Mary Howells (nee Schilling) of Mankota, SK passed away peacefully on February 23, 2013, at the Prairie View Health Centre in Mankota, at the age of 94 years. She had been a resident of the Health Centre since 2004. Rose was born in Midale, SK on April 4, 1918, one of nine children born to Emanuel and Rose (nee Weisgerber) Schilling. She married Bert Howells in 1937 and they were blessed with one son, Bill. Together they farmed north of Mankota and raised Black Angus Cattle. Rose also kept busy growing a big garden, baking, sewing and crocheting. Rose led a very active life in the community; she was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, sang in the Calvary United Church choir, was a member of the United Church Women, and was a cancer canvasser for many years. Rose was involved in creating a float for the Mankota Homecoming and also made two quilts for the celebration. Rose loved her family dearly, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren had a special place in her heart. Rose is survived by her loving family, son Bill (Pearl) Howells; grandson Dwayne (Shauna) Howells, great grandchildren Kirsta, Billi, Hayden; granddaughter Joanne (Merles) Kress, great grandchildren Dalton, Bri-Andy, Asha Lee; sisters Minnie Hildebrandt, Kaye (Bob) Dyck, Marge Becker, many nieces nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her husband Albert Howells (1981); parents Emanuel and Rose (nee Weisgerber) Schilling; sister Annie Forsyth; brothers Pete Schilling, Manny Schilling, Frank Schilling, Ralph Schilling; father and mother-in-law Albert Sr. and Agnes Howells; brother-in-law Arthur (Irma) Howells. Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Calvary United Church, Mankota, SK, with Reverend Mathias Ross officiant. The organist was Lillian Klein. Active pallbearers were Merles Kress, Dwayne Howells, Grant Switzer, Allan Switzer, Les Calvin and Don Robertson. Interment took place at the Mankota Municipal Cemetery.
