Obituary of S. Ron Meek
Stanley Ronald Meek was an absolutely amazing man. Ron left his pre-mortal existence to enter this mortal life on 15 July 1935 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan to his goodly parents Stanley Elias and Edith Ruth (nee Bray) Meek. He was the third child of a family of five mischievous children (bless his sweet mother) ..... Vern Meek (Dora), Shirley Jeffries (Lorn -d'd), Ken Meek -d'd (Pat) & (Iona -d'd) and Marilyn Hurd -d'd (Harold -d'd). His farming family instilled in him a desire to work hard and enjoy life to the fullest, with no regrets. He spent his high school playing ball, curling, running track and field, and continued this love for athletics his whole life. A recent goal was to "golf his age” which he accomplished this summer just before the course closed for the season. Ron was an air cadet and obtained his private pilot's license as a teenager. He went on to serve as a navigator in the Canadian Air Force and flew overseas during the Berlin Crisis. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan as a mechanical engineer which sharpened his innate skills and encouraged a life of creativity and inventing. If somebody said it couldn't be done, Ron did it. He eloped with his high school sweetheart, Thelma Lora Birkenthal, on 24 May 1957 in Saskatoon. They were blessed with seven children, Randal Meek (Dave Kipp), Lori Lynn -d'd, Linda Vernon (Jeffrey), Sandra Banack (David), David Meek (Nicole Dettman), Paul Meek (Qi), Angela Benson (Grant) and instilled within them his values of integrity, adventure, exploration, compassion, charity, friendship, and to not only dream the impossible but then make it happen. He was not defined by others and his sense of adventure led him to explore many new horizons. He developed many talents and started to paint at the age of 67, inspired by nature and family. He was a deeply spiritual man and served as a Bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and later served a two year mission with Thelma, in Moose Jaw, SK. Ron had unconditional love for others and inspired everyone to become their very best. He was always the first to help someone in need and spent his life uplifting others. Ron was an example of what we all strive to be. He enjoyed life to the fullest and curled as skip a week before he returned to his Heavenly home on 18 November 2015. He has completed the work that his Father in Heaven wanted him to do in this life and is now encircled in the arms of God's love. A Funeral Service was held Saturday, November 21, 2015, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Moose Jaw, SK. Interment took place at Kindersley Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Ron may be made to a cause dear to his heart, The Institute for Ethnomedicine, Alzheimer’s Research, Box 3464, Jackson, WY 83001 USA.
