Obituary of Mearl Smith
Mearl Smith of Coderre passed away peacefully on Friday, March 12, 2021 at age of 87. Mearl was born in Mossbank on February 12, 1934 on the family farm. Mearl met Campbell Smith after he had bought a Model T and started making some trips to Mossbank. They were married on October 22, 1960. After the wedding and a honeymoon to the States, they made their first home with Campbell's brother Jim until their house was ready. A house was moved into the yard and after a little work, it was home. In July of 1968 they were blessed with a son, Glen Campbell Smith. In 1974, a new house was built on the farm. In 1985, Campbell and Mearl received the Family Farm Heritage Award for consecutively operating and occupying the home farm that his father settled in 1918. Mearl was a kind, loving person who always had a gentle smile. In her younger years she loved playing baseball and curling. She enjoyed gardening, bingo, playing cards, the Toronto Blue Jays, and farm life. Her greatest joy was watching her son grow up and then watching her grandson grow up. She could be found cheering at baseball games, hockey games and spending family time at Shamrock Regional Park. Mearl is predeceased by her husband Campbell; son Glen as well as her siblings. Mearl will be greatly missed by her grandson Tyson Smith as well as other family and friends. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private Celebration of Mearl’s life will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., at St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Coderre, SK, with Sam Hawkins officiant.
