Obituary of Yvette Stianson

Yvette Marie (nee Giraudier) Stianson passed away at the Assiniboia Union Hospital Long Term Care on April 7, 2021, with family by her side. She was the third eldest of six children born to Jean Claude and Jeanette (nee Philippon) Giraudier. She was born on October 15, 1940 in Willow Bunch, SK. In her youth, Yvette worked as a Candy-Striper Nurses’ Aid. She married her soulmate Elridge Stianson on July 22, 1961, in Willow Bunch, SK. Together they farmed in the Ormiston district. They were blessed with three children, daughter Laurie June 25, 1963, son Leonard November 28, 1964, and daughter Audrey June 1, 1967.  Yvette loved to be outdoors, gardening, tending her flower beds, painting the farm buildings, or the corrals, and even the vehicles.  She raised chickens, milked cows, made her own butter, had a great knack for cooking, and was a wonderful baker, always giving the last cookie to someone else.  She loved music, was a beautiful singer, and she and Elridge loved to dance. She was a devoted mother with a kind and generous heart.  Her three precious granddaughters Janine, Jenna and Leah were her world. She would drop everything to spend time with them. In 2007 Yvette and Elridge moved to Assiniboia to be closer to health care. She and Elridge enjoyed playing Whist, watching the Blue Jay’s, curling, and socializing with friends and family. Unfortunately, in 2017 Yvette needed extra care. She became a resident of Prairie Villa during the week, where she enjoyed exercising, putting puzzles together,  playing bingo, crafting, spending time with cherished friends and then returning home for the weekend.  On September 6, 2020, Yvette moved into respite at the Assiniboia Union Hospital and transitioned to Long Term Care on November 18, 2020. This was an extremely difficult time for Yvette and her family due to the restrictions of Covid 19. It was heartbreaking for her and her family not to be able to visit and take Yvette home. A highlight for Yvette was being able to watch videos of her precious great grandsons Keldan and Denem. Yvette was a beautiful person with a heart of gold. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Yvette is survived by her loving family, husband of 59 years Elridge Stianson; daughter Laurie Stianson (Rick Moore); son Leonard Stianson (Gwen Nesvold), granddaughter Janine Stianson (Daniel Funk), great grandson Keldan, granddaughter Jenna (Calvin) Peterson, great grandson Denem; daughter Audrey Stianson, granddaughter Leah (Kyle) Smith; sisters Helen Yeoman, Denise Balaux, Colette Giraudier and brothers Emile (Doris) Giraudier, Maurice (Trish) Giraudier. Predeceased by her parents, brothers-in-law John Yeoman and Dave Balaux. Due to Covid 19 restrictions a Private Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapel in Assiniboia, SK. A live stream for this service will be available on Piche Hawkins Grondin Funeral Chapels Facebook page five minutes prior to service time.
