Obituary of Claudette Halverson

On October 26, 2021, Claudette (Perigny) Halverson, age 67 years, of Regina, SK left this earthly life surrounded by the love of family, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Gravelbourg, SK. Claudette was born on February 12, 1954, to Joseph and Frances Perigny of Lafleche, SK. She was the fifth of six children. She grew up in Lafleche and graduated from high school in 1972. Claudette was always a hard worker and had various jobs during high school including movie theatre attendant, babysitter, concession worker at Thomson Lake, candy striper at the local hospital and picking rocks for local farmers. After high school she worked at Valley View Centre in Moose Jaw and at CIBC in Regina. She then attended college at Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon where she received training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in 1974. She completed her practicum in Yorkton, and then worked at the Regina General Hospital from 1974 to 1979. Claudette met Montey Halverson (originally of Scobey, Montana) at a barn dance one evening at the Harris farm near Big Beaver, SK while visiting her sister Adeline.  They were married on July 21, 1979, at Lafleche, SK and settled on the farm near Big Beaver.  Montey and Claudette enjoyed being involved in their three daughters’ activities and were very proud of all their accomplishments.  While her daughters were growing up, Claudette embraced her role as a farm wife and mother and was very active in her community.  She had many hobbies, including baking, canning, gardening, crocheting afghans, sewing clothing for her girls, and wheat weaving.  She was very talented and went to many craft sales over the years with her wheat weaving.  Claudette was very active in her church and volunteered at Clearview Christian Camp in Kenosee and taught Sunday School and ladies bible study classes.  She and Montey served as hosts to many of the Americans who came to help with Vacation Bible School at the Church of Christ in Bengough.  Claudette helped organize fitness classes for the seniors at the local drop-in center in Big Beaver, taught Story Hour classes at the library in Big Beaver and served on the Bengough School Board for many years.  Claudette always had an interest in natural and herbal medicine and read many books and magazines on these subjects. After Montey passed away in 2005 after his battle with cancer, Claudette remained on the farm for a few years.  She then decided to embark on a new career path and moved to Regina to attend the Western College of Remedial Massage Therapies where she studied hard to become a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). Claudette graduated and began working at Advance Therapeutic Massage in Regina, SK where she enjoyed a satisfying career, made many new friends, and gained loyal clients.  Claudette loved her family deeply and paid special attention to the children in her life.  She made it clear that her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their children were very cherished.  Her legacy of love for God, her example of caring and support given to her family and her passionate interest in life and other people will live on in the hearts of those she loved.  Claudette will be deeply missed and never forgotten. She is survived by her beloved children, Sarina (Tim) Bell of Gravelbourg, SK and their children Ariana, Silas and Calder; Janelle (Rusty) Pang of Boise, ID and their children Genova and Jude; and Amy Halverson of Duluth, MN; siblings Wilfred Perigny of Regina, SK; Jacquie Perigny (Gary Felton) of Regina, SK; and Adeline Hovorka of Big Beaver, SK; also, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Claudette was predeceased by her husband Montey (2005), sister Dolores Morrison (2017), brother Lucien Perigny (1964), sister-in-law Yvette Perigny (2020), mother Frances Perigny (2003), and father Joseph Perigny (2008). Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, 1:00 pm, at Glen Elm Church of Christ, Regina, SK with Ray McMillan officiant. Eulogy by Sarina Bell, Janelle Pang, and Amy Halverson. Picture tribute by Janelle and Rusty Pang. Private family interment at Buffalo Gap Cemetery.
