Obituary of Anella SCHLAGETER

Anella Regina Rumpel was born May 30, 1931 on a farm near Billimun, SK, and passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at the age of 82. Anella was born May 30, 1931 on a farm near Billimun and passed away December 11, 2013 at the age of 82. She was the fifth of nine children born to John Rumpel and Martha Kratzer. Anella attended grade school at Kramer and later Arbuthnot, both one-room schoolhouses until Grade 10. She attended Grade 11 in Meyronne. Anella moved to Regina in 1947, took a business course and worked as a clerk for the Government of Saskatchewan for eight years. Anella worked many odd jobs including as an usher at the Rider games where she became an avid football fan. She enjoyed the city life and the new experiences but went home to the farm as often as she could. On July 8, 1957, Anella married Henry Schlageter, the boy next door, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Together they took over the Schlageter family homestead. For the first few years of their married life Anella and Henry also managed the Arbuthnot Co-op. This off farm enterprise ended with the arrival of their sons: Rick, Darren and Duane. Anella enjoyed life on the farm. She had a vegetable, fruit, and flower garden. She helped in the field with the farm work until the boys got older, but then still enjoyed delivering meals to the field or checking up on the men. When a bowling alley was built in Meyronne, Anella and Henry immediately joined a league. Bowling was a perfect start to an evening that would end with a late night bridge game. Retirement provided Anella and Henry the opportunity to travel throughout Canada and the United States on bus excursions. They continued to live on the farm, only moving into an apartment in Gravelbourg in 2010. Anella enjoyed the company of her many good neighbours, friends and family. She enjoyed playing cards, building puzzles, sharing a story or the latest news, and if there was a discussion she was not afraid to provide her point of view. Anella was a dedicated CWL member in the St. Elizabeth, Meyronne and Gravelbourg parishes. She loved to crochet, read, listen to country music, as well as watch football and curling. Anella was predeceased by her husband Henry in 2010, her sister Rose Anne in 1932, her infant sister Bernice in 1937, her brother Ralph in 2000, brother Frank in 2007, and sister Martha Schoenroth in 2013. She is survived by: her son Rick, his wife Frankie, their sons Beauregard, and Zachary from Regina; her son Darren, his wife Jacqueline and their children, Nathan, and Emma from Saskatoon; her son Duane, and his wife Susan from Calgary. She is also survived by her siblings: Adeline Thomas, Vern Rumpel, Florence Brazier, Eileen Pachkowsky, her sister-in-law Doreen Rumpel and her brother-in-law Frank Mulatz. Anella spent over 82 years with us. She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Prayers were held on Sunday, December 15, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. and Funeral Mass on Monday, December 16, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., both at Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral, Gravelbourg, SK.
