The maternal side of my family has lost our matriarch, Solange Chevrier. My Memere was community-minded, she was smart and strong, and committed to her family. Most of all, for me, she was loving and kind. I remember fondly the summer visits as a young girl to the farm in Gravelbourg, the endless hours of playing Canasta, the drawer in the panty that was always filled with chocolate bars, the warmth of the home she and my Pepere created.
As I grew older, my memere‘s home was always a safe place for me. It was where I would run to when I needed to replenish what the stress of life had taken. It was where I knew I would never be judged; I would just be loved.
She was one of the key reasons I moved to Regina in 2020 – I wanted to be closer to her as she aged – and I am so glad I made that move. Even in the midst of COVID restrictions, I was able to see her several times before I returned to London last summer. The photo posted here is from the last time I saw her in person on June 6, 2021. I knew that would be the last. We hugged and cried, and then cried some more. I’m sure she knew too.
She has now found peace. She was 95. We were fortunate to have her for as long as we did. I loved her with all my heart. I will miss her wise words and warm hugs. I will miss being able to pick up the phone and hear her voice. I will miss her.

Deepest and sincere condolences to all the family and friends. Aunt Sally will be fondly remembered. She always welcomed us to her home when us Easterners visited and we always had a lot of fun when she &/or she & Uncle Ralph visited Ottawa. Attached (I hope!) is a picture taken of Aunt Sally & Uncle Ralph in our last visit west in 2004, where they opened their home to host our family.
