Obituary of Jean Forkert

Jean Margaret Forkert, 93, of Hodgeville, SK, was called to her heavenly home on June 9, 2022. Jean was born on December 7, 1928, in Grenfell, SK, to Philip and Veronica (nee Strobel) Ortt. She was raised on the family farm, along with her three brothers and one sister. Jean married Harry Forkert on July 16, 1965, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Grenfell. They were blessed with two sons, Curtis and Howard. Jean and Harry made their home and farmed in the Kelstern district. They kept all kinds of animals, and raised chickens and ducks. Jean loved gardening, cooking, baking, and sewing, and collected limited edition plates. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church and the Kelstern Homemakers. Jean was strong-minded, determined, and valued the importance of a job well done. She was caring, loyal, and always put her family first. Harry passed away on January 16, 2015. Jean remained on the family farm until February 2022. Needing additional care, she spent a brief time in Herbert before moving to Foyer St. Joseph in Ponteix. The family is very grateful for the exceptional care that she received.

Jean is survived by her loving family, son Howard Forkert; son Curtis Forkert; brother Arnold (Carolyn) Ortt; sister-in-law Eleanor Schutz. Predeceased by her husband Harry Forkert; parents Philip and Veronica (nee Strobel) Ortt; brothers Edward (Kathleen) Ortt, Norman (Freida) Ortt; sister Alvena (Henry) Busch; brother-in-law Bob Schutz.
