Louis Laflamme

Obituary of Louis Laflamme

Louis Maurice Laflamme passed away peacefully with his wife Cécile by his side, in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan at the age of 90. He was predeceased by his wife Clarisse (Blouin) in 1983. He is survived and will be missed by his loving wife Cécile and her family, and by his five children, Raymond Laflamme (Kelly) and their four children, David Laflamme (Shannon), Amy Deuling (Dustin), Lisa Laflamme (Stuart Proietto), Daniel Laflamme (Jasmin); Lucille Wallace (Patrick) and her three children, Camille McLaughlin (Geoffrey), Gabrielle Lewis (Brian Davis), and Deanne Kaar (Kirt); Louise Bouvier and her two children, Denis Bouvier, and Gilles Bouvier (Caroline); Alain Laflamme (Deirdre) and their son Sebastien; Elaine Laflamme; and thirteen great grandchildren. We are warmed that he will live on in so many hearts. Louis was born in Lafleche, Saskatchewan. His parents, Charles and Annette (St. Arnaud) moved to Saskatchewan from Quebec a short time before he was born. He had one brother, Paul. He grew up and spent his entire life in the vicinity of Gravelbourg. He was a valued member of the community as a farmer and business man. After his father died in 1947, Louis’ mother and brother went back to Quebec and he took over his father’s farm implement business in Gravelbourg. During the years that followed, Louis grew the business and also acquired farm land. As the years went by, his business changed as he built the Mayfair Motel and had other businesses in addition to his farm. Louis married Clarisse in 1949. They had five children together. Louis loved to travel, north for the summer and south for part of the winter. He continued this tradition well into his later years. Louis thoroughly enjoyed his business career, but it was the long days spent outdoors working on the farm that he enjoyed most of all, and he continued to farm until he was 80. Fields of ripe grain and breathtaking sunsets were very close to his heart. Louis was a kind and gentle man and very fond of animals. He taught his children to be kind, and to behave with integrity and honesty, the same way that he lived his life. Louis married Cécile (nee Nobert) Sewell on December 10, 1986. Louis and Cécile had many friends and a full and active life. In his final time at the Foyer, the devotion Louis gave to the community was returned to him through the excellent care he received by the staff at the Foyer D’Youville. We are grateful for this care. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014, at Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral, Gravelbourg, SK, with Father Joseph Strohhofer celebrant. Interment took place at the Gravelbourg Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Louis to a charity of your choice are greatly appreciated.
