Obituary of Jackie LaRochelle

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jacqueline 'Jackie' LaRochelle of Calgary, Alberta, who left us peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the age of 78. Jackie was born on May 20, 1946, near Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan.

Jackie is survived by her loving husband, Normand. She met Normand at the age of 15, often sneaking out of her bedroom window with the help of her brother and a ladder to spend time with him. It was love at first sight, and their bond only grew stronger over the years. Normand was the love of her life and her best friend. They married on July 1, 1967, and enjoyed 57 wonderful years together. Jackie and Normand were blessed with five children: Angie (Charlie), Roger (Angie), Giles (Charleen), Rene, and Carmelle (Wilfred). She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren: Carly (Andrew), Chad, Jason (Megan), Kelsey (Ian), Riley, Connor, Taylor, Alicia, and Ashley, and a great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren: Allie, Cody, Owen, and Connor.

Jackie will be remembered for her humility, kindness, and unconditional love for everyone in her life. She was a supportive listener, always offering positive advice and encouragement. Nothing brought her more joy than knowing her children and grandchildren were happy and safe.

Jackie had a love for crafts, especially plastic canvas, knitting, beadwork, and crocheting, all of which she excelled in. She enjoyed spending time on her iPad and computer, where she downloaded thousands of songs and created hundreds of CDs of movies and Disney classics, even though her children cautioned her that it might be illegal. Jackie cherished family gatherings, often bringing out the playing cards. She was well-known for her homemade buns and baked treats, especially her chocolate chip cookies. Her recipes have been passed down to her children, although they say the treats still don’t taste quite the same. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jackie is survived by her loving family: her sister Marcelle (Alvin); her brother Raymond (Gail); two sisters-in-law, Beverly and Helen; two additional sisters-in-law, Pierrette and Paulette; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Emile and Antoinette Fouquet; her sister Alice (and Alphonse); her brothers Hank and John; her parents-in-law, Rosa and Rene LaRochelle; her brother-in-law Robert; her sister-in-law Denise (and Clifford); and two other brothers-in-law, Roger and Arthur.

A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held at a later date at Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of choice.

"You will remain forever in our hearts."
