Obituary of Mervin MALONEY

Mervin Maloney of Gravelbourg, SK and formerly Mossbank, SK, passed away on July 8, 2013, at the age of 76 years. Mervin was born in the Mossbank district on September 28, 1936, the youngest child born to Michael and Mona Maloney. He attended Hilton School and Mossbank School before going to Teachers College in Moose Jaw from 1954-1955. He also attended the University of Saskatchewan to obtain his B.Ed. degree from 1964 to 1966. He taught school at Ardill from 1955-1956, Croft 1956-1957, Cabrix 1957-1958, Gull Lake 1958-1946, Maple Creek 1966-1970 and Shaunavon from 1970 until his retirement in the mid 1990’s. After his retirement, Mervin moved to Mossbank. Once his health started to fail he moved into the Foyer d’Youville in Gravelbourg. Mervin enjoyed traveling and enjoyed trips to Europe, Mexico, the Gulf Coast, the Maritimes, Las Vegas and Montreal. His pastimes were coaching hockey and he was the secretary for the Elks for thirteen years. Mervin was predeceased by his parents Michael and Mona (nee Powers) Maloney; sisters Florence (Lorne) Hoffos, Dot Maloney, Wilda (Mervin) Waldal; brothers Jim, Frank, Ed and Bill; sister-in-law Audrey Maloney. He is survived by his brother Albert; sister Mearl (Campbell) Smith; sisters-in-law Marion Maloney, Joyce Maloney; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. At Mervin’s request there will be no funeral service. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapels, Assiniboia & Gravelbourg.
