Obituary of Omer Joseph Lizee

Omer Lizée Omer Dieudonne Joseph Ulric Lizée passed away peacefully at the Foyer d'Youville, Gravelbourg, SK, on May 2, 2017, at the age of 90 years. He was the fifth and last surviving child of Alarie and Leonie (nee Gauthier) Lizée. He was born on September 30, 1926, on the family homestead northwest of Gravelbourg. The family relocated 1/2 mile north of the old site and established a new yard where Omer was raised. He attended the Piché country school for six years and then went to the convent in Gravelbourg from 1938 - 1942. On December 20, 1947 in Montreal, he married Thérèse Germain from Cantal, Saskatchewan. In the spring of 1948, Omer's Dad passed away, so the newlyweds moved back to Gravelbourg to take over the family farm. It was here that they raised their three children: Hector, Rita & Lucien. Omer and Thérèse mainly operated a mixed grain farm; however, in the earlier years they raised cows, pigs, turkeys and chickens. Omer was an innovator and forward thinker. He built his own tractor cab and as machinery grew larger, to cover more acres, he built hitches to hook up two, then three discers together. Omer and Thérèse took pride in their farm. All the buildings were painted red with a green roof, the house white with green trim and a red roof, the machinery, land, yard and garden were always impeccable and well maintained, all evidence of their hard work. There was always something for Omer to fix or invent, and Thérèse was always right behind with a paint brush. Every piece of machinery and every building in the yard were cared for meticulously. In 1979 after 32 years on the farm, Omer and Thérèse retired to Gravelbourg. Although Omer was retired, for many years he was the parts runner, handy man and vehicle mover. He would bring refreshments and goodies to the boys like clockwork, everyday at 3 pm, then go back to town and wait by the phone for a call in case he was needed for something. For 19 years Omer and Thérèse enjoyed the winter months in Mesa, AZ, and from 1994 to 2003 summers were spent at Regina Beach, fishing and enjoying the companionship of friends and family. In 2011, Omer was diagnosed with dementia. During this time Thérèse was unselfishly devoted to his care. The Foyer d'Youville was his home for the last 5 years, where the staff became his new friends that he would joke and laugh with. Last September Omer celebrated his 90th Birthday, where, to everyone's surprise he stood up and thanked everyone for coming. Because of the caring and tender father, grandfather and great grandfather that he was, Omer will be sorely missed. Omer is reunited in heaven with his loving wife Thérèse (2014). Left to cherish his memory is his loving family: Son Hector (Audrey) Lizée, grandson Jason Lizée, great granddaughter Jayda; grandson Collin Lizée (Tammy), great grandsons Blayze and Zander; granddaughter Tanya (Kevin) Schmidt, great granddaughter Jersey. Daughter Rita (Lyle) Csada, grandson Corey (Charity) Csada, great grandchildren Alivia, Owen; grandson Nathan (Jolene) Csada, great grandchildren Gabriella, Arianna; grandson Travis (Alyssa) Csada, great granddaughter Avery; granddaughter Vicki Csada (Christian). Son Lucien (Wanda) Lizée, granddaughter Rébecca (Brad) Righi, great granddaughter Emmett; granddaughter Natalie (Kris) Braun, great granddaughter Isla; granddaughter Tiffany Lizée; grandson Benoit Lizée. Omer is predeceased by his parents Alarie and Leonie (nee Gauthier) Lizée; siblings Armand (Leona) Lizée, Irene (Felix) Tetreault, Eugene (Juliette) Lizée and Gerard Lizée. Survived by one sister-in-law, Lucille Lizée of Regina. Prayers were held on Friday, May 5, 2017, at 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral in Gravelbourg, SK, with Father Maurice Minne, Rita and Lyle Csada presiding.
