Obituary of John Mayo

John Barry Mayo passed away with family at his side, on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the Regina Pasqua Hospital, Regina, SK, at the age of 73. He was the oldest child born to Rex Mayo and Helen "Doreen" Burgess. He was born on December 25, 1943 in London, England. He came to Canada in August 1946, arriving in Hazenmore by train. John received his education in Hazenmore and Kincaid. After graduating, he attended the Saskatchewan Technical Institute in Moose Jaw, SK. He worked towards his journeyman's electrician's license. In1968, he married Eileen Wilkinson, and the following year they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Jacalyn. John worked many electrical projects in Regina, Lanigan and Estevan, receiving his journeyman's license in 1972. He worked on the seismic crew at Tuktoyaktuk, NWT. He also worked in Kenya for a year. He drove a snow cat in Panorama, BC for a winter where he was able to improve his skiing skills. In 1996, he bought a house in Cochrane, AB and worked in the electrical trade in Calgary, AB and Fort McMurray, AB. In September 2001, sparks flew when he reconnected with his high school classmate, Bonnie Dorgan. They spent sixteen wonderful years together. After John and Bonnie retired, they became full time RVer's spending the winters in the United States and returning to Hazenmore in the spring. They enjoyed traveling to Europe, London, Ireland, and Mexico. John had a great love for climbing and conquered many peeks, he was an avid hiker, a wonderful cook, an amazing gardener, enjoyed golfing, and in his spare time, he could be found restoring old vehicles. John enjoyed the company of friends, was dedicated to his community and contributed with wisdom and thoughts. He was a wonderful and unique man and will be dearly missed. Left to cherish his memory is his partner Bonnie Dorgan; daughter Jacalyn Mayo (Jim), grandsons Tyler and Jesse; sister Michelle Mayo; brother Reg Mayo (Bea); friends Lyle Wilkinson, Tim Paulson, nieces, nephews and cousins. Also survived by Bonnie's children, son Blair Hunt, and his daughter Jacqueline, son Lee Hunt (Jennifer), and their children Hallee and Jordyn. He is predeceased by his parents Rex and Helen Mayo; infant brothers Geoff, Gary and Robert; sister Helen Wilkinson. Celebration of John's Life will be held Saturday, September 2, 2017, 2:30 p.m. at the Hazenmore Memorial Hall. Memorial donations in John's memory may be given to the Hazenmore Recreation Community Club, c/o Grant Verbrugge, Box 180, Kincaid, SK. S0H 2J0.
