Obituary of Dennis MCLEAN

Dennis McLEAN Dennis Gladstone McLean of Fir Mountain, SK, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at the age of 90 years. Dennis was born at the family farm in the Fir Mountain District on September 18, 1922, the third of nine children born to Joseph and Eva McLean. Dennis attended Plessis School one and a half miles from the farm. He loved living on the farm and was involved with farming, cattle, and horses from a young age. Dennis was especially fond of his team of purebred Belgians. Dennis met Doris Olliver in the fall of 1941 when he went to combine for her father. They were married on March 14, 1946 and celebrated 66 years of marriage. Dennis and Doris were blessed with four children, eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. The grandchildren loved to go riding with Dennis on his golf cart or out to check the cows and crops with him. Dennis enjoyed telling stories and had a very good memory. He was always able to help his family and friends remember a name, date or place that they had forgotten. Recently, Dennis attended an auction sale, where he was able to spend time with his family and many friends that he hadn’t seen for a long time. Special times Dennis spent with his family include driving around the country, having a pop or beer on the deck, opening presents Christmas mornings, singing Christmas songs, fencing, Wood Mountain Rodeos, icecream sandwiches, creamsicles, playing cards, having a drink of whiskey or tea in the evenings and going to Fort Peck for Father’s Day. Dennis will be forever loved and missed by his family and friends. Dennis is survived by his wife Doris; daughter Sharlene (Jim) Myers, granddaughter Andrea (Trevor) Insley, great grandchildren Bethany, Jadyn, Ashlyn, grandson Aaron Myers (Jillian Barkwell); son Dwayne (Alice) McLean, grandson Oran (Tracy), great grandchildren Hayley, Brenna, Austin, grandson Bryce (Lori), great grandchildren Colby, Crystal; daughter Novella Harden, grandson Jeremy, granddaughter Trista (Steve) Dowling, great grandchildren Rylie, Landon, grandson Josh( Jamie), great grandchildren Hunter, Tyke, grandson Colter; son Grant (Tammy) McLean, granddaughters Kyla (Leelan Knoss), Shelby, Dakota; brother Donald McLean. Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Eva; brothers and sisters Leslie, Doris, Enid, Eileen, Marie, Irma and Kenneth. Memorial Service took place on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., from the Fir Mountain Hall, Fir Mountain, SK, with Rick Aupperle and Lionel Moffatt officiants. The eulogy was shared by Kyla McLean, Shelby McLean and Dakota McLean. Special poem was read by Andrea Insley, Bryce McLean and Colby McLean. Music by Jeremy Harden, Josh Harden, Colter Harden and Jody Harden. Urn bearers were Grant McLean and Dwayne McLean. Interment took place at the Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial tributes in memory of Dennis to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 279 3rd Ave. N., Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8 and the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, SK S6H 2M2, were greatly appreciated.
