MARIE IRÈNE LUCILLE FOURNIER CHABOT Irène Fournier Chabot de Ferland, Saskatchewan, épouse de feu Alfred Chabot, est décédée paisiblement à l'hôpital Pasqua, le 20 janvier 2018, à l'âge de 87 ans. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants : Rolland (Eileen), Jean (Janet), Rita, Marc (Anna) et Francine (Dan) Tiessen. Elle laisse également dans le deuil ses petits-enfants qu'elle aimait sans réserve : Jerémie Chabot (Rochelle Carr), Patrick Hopf (Junghwa Lee), Laura Chabot (Mitch Wiebe), Mylène Hopf, Julie Chabot (Cody Thoring), André Chabot, Paul Chabot ( Erika), Marielle Hopf, Daniel Tiessen (fiancée Pamela Tomczyk), Marc Tiessen, Matthew Chabot et Veronica Chabot, ainsi que ses neuf (9) arrière-petits-enfants : Amélie, Julien et Olivier Hopf; Emilie, Luke et Jack Wiebe; Charlotte et Lillian Thoring; et Rose Chabot. Irène laisse aussi dans le deuil ses sœurs Rita Lynch, Lucienne Chabot, Marianne (André Lalonde), son frère Lionel (Hélène) et ses belles-sœurs Rachel Fournier, Marina Fournier, Odélie Couture, Gertrude Brisebois, Noëlla Girardin, Jeannine Chabot, Lauriette MacMullin, et Colette Chabot. Elle a été précédée dans la mort par ses parents, Aristide et Pearl Fournier, ses frères, Albert OMI), Raymond, Roger; ses belles-sœurs Yvette Monette, Annette Chabot et Gilberte Chabot, ses beaux-frères Jack Lynch, Robert Chabot, Joseph-Edmond Chabot, Laurier Chabot, Viateur Chabot, Valmore Couture, Aimé Brisebois, Raymond Girardin et Marcel Monette. Née le 25 août 1930 à Montréal, Irène a grandi à Ferland, en Saskatchewan. Elle a épousé l'amour de sa vie, Alfred Chabot, le 15 novembre 1950 et ensemble ils ont élevé cinq (5) enfants. Irène et Alfred se sont établis à Ferland où ils étaient agriculteurs. La vie était mouvementée, mais il y avait toujours du temps pour la famille et les amis. Irène adorait recevoir la parenté et les amis et elle prenait plaisir à servir de délicieux repas, que vous soyez invités à un grand rassemblement où que vous vous pointiez le nez à la dernière minute. Irène personnifiait l'expression femme du peuple». Elle avait le don d’engager une conversation avec quiconque et de rendre la personne rapidement à l'aise. Son amour pour les gens et ses compétences organisationnelles ont fait d'elle une bénévole inestimable. Sa maîtrise des deux langues officielles, ses compétences littéraires et sa capacité de parler en public étaient bien connues et appréciées. Mais, en plus de ses compétences, Irène était aussi reconnue pour sa passion et de son engagement envers des projets sociaux et culturels. Elle a travaillé sans relâche à promouvoir les organismes culturels et éducatifs au niveau local, provincial ou national, y compris la revendication des droits des femmes francophones. Elle a reçu de nombreux honneurs de la part d'organismes provinciaux, nationaux et internationaux, dont l'Ordre du Canada en mai 2004. Irène était également engagée dans sa communauté paroissiale et chrétienne. Irène s’est donnée sans compter à différentes causes. Elle était vraiment une femme remarquable qui a fait une réelle différence! Elle rayonnait d’enthousiasme et de joie. Elle laisse à sa famille et à la communauté fransaskoise une panoplie de bons souvenirs. Nous ne l’oublierons jamais! With family at her side, Irène Fournier Chabot of Ferland, SK passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital, January 20, 2018, at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred Chabot (2006). Irène will be missed by her children: Rolland (Eileen), Jean (Janet), Rita, Marc (Anna), and Francine (Dan) Tiessen. Irène will also be missed by her grandchildren that she loved dearly: Jerémie Chabot (Rochelle Carr), Patrick Hopf (Junghwa Lee), Laura Chabot (Mitch Wiebe), Mylène Hopf, Julie Chabot (Cody Thoring), André Chabot, Paul Chabot (Erika), Marielle Hopf, Daniel Tiessen (fiancee Pamela Tomczyk), Marc Tiessen, Matthew Chabot, and Veronica Chabot, as well as her 9 great-grandchildren who brought her special joy: Amélie, Julien, and Olivier Hopf, Emilie, Luke and Jack Wiebe, Charlotte and Lillian Thoring and Rose Chabot. Irène is also survived by her sisters Rita Lynch, Lucienne Chabot, Marianne (André Lalonde), her brother Lionel (Hélène) and her sisters-in-law Rachel Fournier, Marina Fournier, Odélie Couture, Gertrude Brisebois, Noëlla Girardin, Jeannine Chabot, Lauriette MacMullin, and Colette Chabot. She was predeceased by her parents Aristide and Pearl Fournier, her brothers Albert, OMI, Raymond, Roger, her sisters-in-law Yvette Monette, Annette Chabot and Gilberte Chabot, brothers-in-law Jack Lynch, Robert Chabot, Joseph-Edmond Chabot, Laurier Chabot, Viateur Chabot, Valmore Couture, Aimé Brisebois, Raymond Girardin and Marcel Monette. Irène was born on August 25, 1930, in Montreal and raised in Ferland, Saskatchewan. Irène married the love of her life, Alfred Chabot, on November 15th, 1950, and together they raised 5 children. Irène and Alfred farmed in the Ferland area. Farm life was hectic but there was always time for family and friends. Irène loved to entertain and you were guaranteed a delicious meal whether you were invited to a large gathering or just popped in unexpectedly. Irène personified the expression "people person.” She had the gift of being able to strike a conversation with anyone and quickly make that person feel at ease. Her love of people and her great organizational skills made her an invaluable volunteer. Her command of both official languages, her literary skills, along with her public speaking abilities were well-known and recognized. But it wasn’t just about the skills Irène brought to a variety of organizations, it was about her passion and commitment to social and cultural projects. She worked tirelessly to promote provincial and national Francophone cultural and educational organizations, including the rights of French-speaking women in Saskatchewan. She received numerous honors from provincial, national and international bodies including the Order of Canada in May, 2004. Irène was also strongly committed to her parish and Christian community. She was truly a remarkable woman who made a real difference! Irène Fournier Chabot will be sorely missed by her family and the Francophone community.
